Our Services

Interpreter and Translation Services has an array of services, as established by the Provision of Interpreter Policy to support our mission:

a)      We have trained Spanish Medical Interpreters available 24/7.

b)      For languages other than Spanish, we have contracted with CyraCom International, a transparent language service that specializes in medical interpretations in over 150 different languages via telephone interpretation.

c)      Interpreter and Translation Services also coordinates access to licensed American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for the hearing impaired.

How To Request An Interpreter:

For Spanish Medical Interpreter

a)    Regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, contact us at 721-6929.

b)      After hours, holidays, and weekends, contact the paging operator at 721-3893 or the on-line On Call system to access the interpreter on-call. You may be asked the following information:

§  Your Name

§  Your clinic or department

§  Language required

§  Location and room number

§  Name and MRN of the patient

§  Name and phone number of staff requesting an interpreter

§  A brief explanation of the medical concern

For Languages other than Spanish

a)    Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm contact us at 721-6929.

b)      After hours, holidays, and weekends contact the paging operator at 721-3893 or the on-line On Call system to access the interpreter on-call to provide instructions on how to access the Cyracom; or

c)      Contact the Nursing House Supervisor’s Office at 721-4740 for after hours, holidays and weekends to access the language services of CyraCom International.

For Sign Language Interpreters
American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters are available by appointment only. Arrangements for this service must be made as much in advance as possible. Contact Interpreter and Translation Services Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to schedule a Sign Language Interpreter.

IMPORTANT: Notify Interpreter and Translation Services immediately of any cancellation or reschedule of appointment.

In case of an emergency or in the case that no ASL Interpreter is available to assist in person, in order to ensure access to a qualified sign language interpreter 24/7 AUMC has contracted the services of Deaf-Talk Interpreting. With their Deaf-Talk (DT) system, they have become pioneers in the field of Sign Language interpretations using tele-video conferencing technology. The system is available through the Interpreter and Translation Services. Please contact us at 721-6929.​

The Wellness Network Patient Channel

AU Health made available to you The Wellness Network Patient Channel. They offer a variety of TV programs and a comprehensive online library with videos in numerous health topics on channel 16 of your television. 

The Newborn Channel is also available on channel 14 for English and 15 for Spanish. To access the online library, visit www.thepatientchannelnow.com and enter password 01694. To access the TV program guide, contact your nurse or care coordination team member.

The majority of televisions within the adul medical center and children's hospital are equipped with closed-caption capacity. Programming on these sets for closed caption can be made available.
