Magnet Journey

The Quest for Nursing Excellence

Nursing with AU Health is beginning on our Magnet Journey as of July FY16. The Magnet program is administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet designation is the highest and most prestigious credential a healthcare organization can achieve for nursing excellence and quality patient care. This journey brings benefits to the organization, including improved safety, nurse satisfaction and retention, reduced costs and superior patient outcomes. Magnet is raising the bar for nursing care delivery, new nursing knowledge, and evidence- based clinical quality inhealthcare organizations. Currently 7% of hospitals in the U.S. are Magnet designated.

Magnet Components:
  • Transformational leadership
  • Structural Empowerment
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
  • New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements
  • Empirical outcomes
Our organization will be partnering with the Cerner Magnet Advisory Program to navigate our Magnet Journey. Dr. Kim Sharkey, Healthcare Executive and Director of the Cerner Magnet Advisory Program will be our Consultant working with Nursing as we innovate, involve, and inspire the professional practice of nursing at AU Health.
